PREP educates teens about healthy choices.

This Personal Responsibility Education Program, or PREP for short, is designed to educate teens on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. The program also focuses on adulthood preparation topics, like healthy relationships. It’s funded by a federal grant.

In fact, under the Affordable Care Act, grants were distributed across the country to fund programs like this one.

The Children’s Home of York President Laurie Anne Spagnola says about the program:

“It gives young people the tools they need to make better decisions and to be responsible for the decisions they make.”

PREP targets young people who are homeless, in foster care, living in rural areas with high birth rates and from minority groups.

“You can see they’re really engaged with it and all participating the in the opportunity to learn, to grow, to change,” Spagnola says.
