Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies. It builds all year long and culminates on October 24.

The grassroots campaign focuses on issues as varied as healthier diets, reducing hunger, promoting sustainable agriculture, creating better food policy, and more. In 2012, 2,300 events, large and small, took place in all 50 states.

LANCASTER FOOD DAY: Organized by a coalition that includes Lancaster Buy Fresh Buy Local, Lighten Up Lancaster, Lancaster General Health, Millersville University and Franklin & Marshall College.

The goals of Lancaster Food Day are to:

  • Raise public awareness about Lancaster’s food and health environment,
  • Call attention to the local resources available for enhancing community health and strengthening our local food system
  • Inspire action to create a healthier and more equitable food environment for all Lancaster County residents.

Lancaster Food Day currently consists of over 10 public events and a growing number of “private” events, including sustainable food dinners at F&M, and potlucks in homes and churches across Lancaster.

Events are being uploaded daily on the national Food Day website and on the Lancaster Food Day Facebook page.
