How end-of-life decisions are changing

Jim Hoefler, political science professor at Dickinson College, says the end-of-life culture could undergo dramatic changes over the next generation.

(Carlisle) — 29 year old Brittany Maynard, diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, recently used Oregon’s assisted suicide law to take her life on her own terms.

The decision attracted international attention, and renewed a debate about what some call death with dignity.

With November designated as national hospice and palliative care month, it’s a good time to reflect on the issue.

So while assisted suicide has been very much in the news, Dickinson College political science professor Jim Hoefler, an expert in end of life issues,says Maynard’s headline grabbing decision is a very small piece of the puzzle.
