(Dubois, Pa.) — Nurses in the western Pennsylvania network Penn Highlands DuBois will determine if they will unionize this week.
WJACT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2y8l3H7 ) the group of 370 nurses is expected to vote on Thursday and Friday. The nurses are considering joining the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.
According to a PASNAP spokesman, the nurses want to improve patient care, address retention problems and gain a protected platform to voice their needs.
Penn Highlands DuBois officials say they regret some staffers are looking to union representation. Officials say they are committed to listening and partnering with their staffers.
PASNAP represents over 8,000 nurses and health professionals throughout the state. The union has grown larger in recent years as more caregivers join.
