Dr. Daphne Miller is the author of Farmacology: Total Health from the Ground Up. She visited readers in Lancaster County to discuss her book.

On Monday September 18 the 5th Annual Summer Read wrapped up with a special event, A Summer Read: Beyond the Pages with Author Dr. Daphne Miller,  at The Pressroom Restaurant in Lancaster. All summer long readers throughout South Central Pennsylvania were encouraged to check out Dr. Miller’s book, Farmacology: Health from the Ground Up, from their local library and talk about it with friends, family, coworkers and book discussion groups.

The evening began with special tastings of local farm to table fare. Attendees heard from Dr. Miller as she discussed the hidden connections between how we care for our bodies and how we grow our food.

“My most important message is that the foundation of our health is healthy soil. And the two are totally interconnected. In fact it’s not too much of a reach to say that we are soil,” explains Miller. “I was so impressed by both the farmers who were there and the methods that were used for farming.  And the delicious products that they were producing! The proof is always in what you’re tasting and clearly they’re growing food in a really beautiful and healthy way.  You literally taste the healthy soil in the foods that are being produced by a lot of the farmers in this region.”

Dr. Miller also spoke at the Capitol Blue Store in Enola on September 18 and at Penn State Health in Hershey on September 19.  She also was a guest on WITF’s radio program Smart Talk hosted by Scott LaMar.

WITF is proud to have been able to bring Dr. Daphne Miller to our region to connect with readers. The Summer Read project is a unique community partnership of WITF’s Transforming Health, Aligning Forces for Quality- South Central PA and Central PA library systems. It is supported by WellSpan Health, Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Capital BlueCross. And we’d like to thank all of our partners and sponsors, including LNP and The Pressroom Restaurant, for helping make this important community conversation possible.
