(Harrisburg) — One of Pennsylvania’s biggest insurers says it’s seeing more people enrolling in its plans through the federal health insurance marketplace.

Pittsburgh-based insurer Highmark says just over 10,000 people had enrolled through Monday, and it says the rate of people enrolling is growing.

About 2,200 Pennsylvanians had selected an insurance plan on the marketplace in the first few weeks after it opened October 1st.

But the operation of the troubled online gateway website, Healthcare.gov, has improved in the past couple weeks after persistent glitches were fixed.

Enrollment by December 23rd is necessary for coverage to begin January. 1st.

People with low-to-moderate incomes are eligible for federal tax credits to help pay for a plan.

Pennsylvania is relying on a federally run online marketplace because Governor Corbett declined the task.
