HealthSmart: Drugs and Young People

Do you know a young person struggling with drug addiction?  Most likely the answer is yes.
It’s a serious problem affecting every community across the country and right here in Pennsylvania.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, drug use is highest among people in their late teens and early twenties.  Listen as young recovering addicts share their stories.  Why did they choose to begin using drugs, how did they get them and why was it hard to put them down?  Plus, learn why experts in the field say people in this age range may be more prone to begin using drugs and what parents can do to intervene.

Keira McGuire is a health reporter and multimedia producer for WITF. She hosts and produces Transforming Health television programs as well as other shows and documentaries for WITF’s Original Productions. McGuire produced the Emmy Award winning series HealthSmart for the last ten years. Keira previously worked at WBFF in Baltimore and WMDT in Salisbury as a reporter and anchor. She’s a graduate of Towson University.
