(Hershey) — One of the largest health systems in the midstate is planning to grow even larger.

Penn State Health, which includes Penn State Hershey Medical Center, is signing a letter to add Tyrone Regional Health Network as its affiliate.

Tyrone Regional includes Tyrone Hospital in Blair County, doctor’s offices throughout the State College region, and a breast cancer and women’s health institute.

The deal with Penn State Health still needs approval from the boards of both health systems, plus the state Attorney General’s office.

The move is just the latest in a long string of mergers and affiliations in the midstate that have led to significant consolidation in the health care industry.
