1 in 3 kids ages 2-19 are overweight or obese. And, 50% of obese kids are obese as adults. Obesity increases risks for many serious diseases including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer. But, it also takes a toll on self-esteem and mental health. Poor diet and lack of exercise are two of the key factors in the obesity epidemic in the U.S.

These stats are shocking, but thereishope. Parents can empower kids to make healthy choices bymodeling a healthy lifestyle themselves.

The Transforming Health team is offering the infographic below as a tool to help educate parents about the problems and thesolutions. Study it, print it out, put it on your fridge, and make sure to share it with family and friends. Because, when it comes to transforming the health of our kids, we’re all in this together.

Over the past 30 years, obesity rates in children have tripled. If we don’t stop this now… over 86% of adults will be overweight and obese by the year 2013.

Recent news points towards an encouraging trend in decreased obesity rates in children across the nation. But, Pennsylvania is one of only three states that has seen an increase in rates. So, there’s still a ways to go in reversing this problem.
